Choosing SS 304
Use a grade specification suited to the actual moisture, chemicals and temperature involved. For general outdoor or wet conditions, 304 may be considered where the designer confirms adequate corrosion resistance. It should not be assumed suitable for every coastal or chemical installation.
A2 describes a stainless steel fastener material group commonly associated with 304-type compositions. A2-70 additionally specifies a strength class. A catalogue entry saying SS 304 does not by itself establish A2-70 compliance or certification.
Specification and documentation
Send the product standard, exact material grade, dimensions, thread pitch and quantity. If you require a test certificate, specified strength class or traceability, include it in the enquiry so availability can be checked before purchase. The general grade guide does not certify a particular batch.
