This nut bolt weight chart in kg provides theoretical SS 304 estimates using an explicit geometry model. It is a planning aid, not a table of measured DIN or ISO fastener weights. The downloadable PDF shows the assumed dimensions, density and formulas so you can see how every result was calculated.

For invoicing, freight booking or converting stock weight into a reliable piece count, use the actual supplied product or batch mass. The model does not establish the weight of a particular A M Steel item.

Download the SS 304 nut and bolt theoretical weight chart (PDF). The file includes the model table, assumptions and a worked example. Pair means one bolt plus one nut; washers and packaging are excluded.

Read the dimensions before using a value

All input dimensions are millimetres. d is the nominal shaft diameter and the simple model nut bore. L is the shaft length under the head. s is the width across flats used for both model head and nut. k is head height, and m is nut height.

These are illustrative geometry inputs, not a dimensional standard or a statement of stock availability. A different head or nut profile changes the result even when the nominal diameter is unchanged.

How the SS 304 estimate is calculated

The model uses a density of 7.9 kg/dm3, equivalent to 0.0000079 kg/mm3. Outokumpu lists 7.9 kg/dm3 for Core 304/4301. Use a density appropriate to the specified material when building a different model.

Bolt volume = pi x d squared x L / 4 + square root of 3 x s squared x k / 2. Nut volume = (square root of 3 x s squared / 2 minus pi x d squared / 4) x m. Multiply the volume in mm3 by 0.0000079 to obtain kg.

The head and nut are regular hexagonal prisms. The shaft is a smooth cylinder. The model omits thread grooves, runout, chamfers, fillets and tolerances. Its nut bore is a simplified nominal-diameter hole. Results are approximate and are neither certified masses nor guaranteed upper or lower bounds.

A worked quantity example

For the d = 10 and L = 40 row, the model bolt mass is 0.03747 kg and the model nut mass is 0.01085 kg. Using the unrounded pair calculation, 1,000 pairs are approximately 48.33 kg before washers and packaging.

Keep full precision during calculation and round the final answer. This example demonstrates arithmetic only. Confirm a sample or batch weight before using it as a purchasing or transport quantity.

Check the weight basis before ordering

  1. Confirm the exact grade and product standard.
  2. Check the full dimensions, including head and nut form.
  3. Confirm whether the figure is measured or theoretical.
  4. Separate bolts, nuts, washers and packaging.
  5. Agree whether the quotation is per piece, per hundred or per kilogram.
  6. Request the actual batch weight when it affects billing or transport.

Density reference

The density reference is the Outokumpu Core range physical-properties data for Core 304/4301. The geometric model and example dimensions are explicitly stated calculations, not copied manufacturer mass data.
